The quarterly safety award recognizes units that have not had a class A, B or C accident or injury in the preceding quarter, while the "Commander's Special Safety Award" recognizes units for not having a class A, B or C accident or injury for the preceding year. Accidents are categorized in descending order of severity, as 'A,' accidents involving three or more personnel; 'B,' accidents resulting in over $20,000 in property damage; or 'C,' accidents resulting in less than $20,000 in property damage.
