Rct. Emily K. Hester, a 19-year-old native of Oakley, Calif., is currently training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., in hopes of earning the title United States Marine. Hester is training with Platoon 4007, Papa Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, and is scheduled to graduate Feb. 26, 2016. “I joined the Marine Corps to better myself and be more like my father,” said Hester who graduated from Freedom High School in 2015. “I wanted to continue the military tradition in our family.” Approximately 19,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
