Master Sgt. John Vanderstigchel, an improvised explosive device master trainer for the 189th Infantry Division, shows Soldiers of the 86th Brigade Combat Team some of the dangerous materials used in creating improvised explosive devices. During the counter IED training, Soldiers will learn techniques to identify IEDs and the different procedures used to securely combat these threats in theater. The Vermont National Guard's 86th Brigade Combat Team is currently training at Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center before deploying early February for one year to Afghanistan.
