U.S. Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Daniel Smith, explosive ordnance disposal technician, assigned to Joint Special Operations Task Force-Philippines, examines some of the chemical compounds in improvised explosive devices. Smith and two other EOD Task Unit members taught a two-day course to members of the Philippine National Police Regional Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Detection Unit 9 at their headquarters in Zamboanga del Norte. The class focused on ways to identify the various chemicals in homemade bombs, should the teams have to search a home of a suspected bomb maker.
