151217-N-XW558-005 ATLANTIC OCEAN NORFOLK, Va (Dec. 17, 2015) Capt. Timothy Kuehhas, commanding officer of the aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73), and his family finish painting the eyes of a traditional Japanese Daruma doll in the ship's in-port cabin after pulling in to the ship's new homeport of Norfolk following an eight-month deployment. A Daruma doll is traditionally given as a gift and the recipient paints one of the eyes upon setting a goal. By painting the second eye, Kuehhas has demonstrated that Washington completed its goal of a safe and successful deployment. The Daruma will be returned to Japan where it will be ceremoniously burned at an appropriate shrine. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Alex L. Smedegard/Released)
