Sergeant David A. Phelps, primary marksmanship instructor, Weapons and Field Training Battalion, helps a recruit with his kneeling position during Grass Week at Edson Range, WFTBN, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., Dec. 9. The PMIs corrected the recruits’ firing positions to ensure the recruits were comfortable and prepared to conduct live firing the following week. Today, all males recruited from west of the Mississippi are trained at MCRD San Diego. The depot is responsible for training more than 16,000 recruits annually. Fox Company is scheduled to graduate Jan. 29.
