Sergeant David A. Phelps, primary marksmanship instructor, Weapons and Field Training Battalion, teaches recruits about weapons fundamentals during Grass Week at Edson Range, WFTBN, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., Dec. 9. The recruits participated in classes taught by their PMIs, and they learned more about handling their weapon and what they’ll be doing with it for the weeks to come. Today, all males recruited from west of the Mississippi are trained at MCRD San Diego. The depot is responsible for training more than 16,000 recruits annually. Fox Company is scheduled to graduate Jan. 29.
