Sgt. Larry J. Barnes, left, introduces himself to Aiki Taeko during an English class Nov. 5 at the Aeon Rycom Mall in Chatan, Okinawa, Japan. The class provided Okinawa residents with an opportunity to interact and improve their English through conversation with native English speakers. During the class, SOFA members played word games with Okinawa residents and explained various cultural references and vernacular. After the classroom activities, SOFA volunteers divided into groups with the students, ate lunch and shopped together before returning to the classroom to discuss what they had learned. Marine Corps Installations Pacific strengthens relationships with our allies and partners in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region; enables the strategic launch and recovery of military capabilities to save lives and to preserve regional peace, stability and security; and enables operating force readiness to guarantee victory. Barnes is an intelligence specialist with G-2, intelligence, III Marine Headquarters Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force and a Paducah, Kentucky, native. Taeko is a Ginowan City, native.
