Private Robert J. Bailey, Platoon 3267, Mike Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, watches his opponent during body boxing at Edson Range, Weapons and Field Training Battalion, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., Dec. 2. To ensure their safety, recruits were given protective gear to help shield them from certain strikes from their opponent. Recruits were matched up with someone around the same weight they were, give or take 10 pounds.
