Sgt. Ben Davis, standing atop railcar, allied trade specialist, 682nd Engineer Battalion, guides the driver of the five-ton dump truck as it is being loaded onto flatcars for shipment. The spanner can be seen between the two rear wheels, connecting the two flatcars allowing the equipment to advance. The loading process for all heavy machinery is a three man job, with a ground guide in front to guide the machine, the driver or heavy machine operator who operates the equipment and a ground spotter, who ensures the spanners are in place so that the machine can move across the gaps between flatcars
