Tinian Mayor Joey P. San Nicolas watches with Lt. Col. Eric Reid, Battalion Commander, 1st Battalion, 2d Marine Regiment, as his Marines play basketball against the Tinian High School team. The Marines took part in community relations efforts with the people of Tinian, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, on Nov. 17, 2015, after being deployed on short notice from Fuji to notionally secure the expeditionary airfield and conduct training. The training allowed the Marines an opportunity to establish long-range communications and receive professional military education in order to ensure utilization and validation of the Marianas Islands Range Complex, improve the Marines' understanding and appreciation for unit history, and validate elements of the Alert Contingency MAGTF.
