Sgt. Lewis A. Velasquez, drill instructor, Receiving Company, Support Battalion, instructs a new recruit to move faster during receiving at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Nov. 9. Recruits are required to follow all instructions from drill instructors through the course of training. In the following week of receiving, they will conduct an initial strength test, undergo medical screenings and immunizations and learn the basic rules of recruit training. Today, all males recruited from west of the Mississippi are trained at MCRD San Diego. The depot is responsible for training more than 16,000 recruits annually. Lima Company is scheduled to graduate Feb. 5.
