Fantino served as the radio telephone operator for 1st Lt. Rick Rescorla during the battles at both LZ Albany and LZ X-Ray. Rescorla - who was featured on the cover of the book detailing the battle “We Were Soldiers Once… And Young” - was later killed evacuating his coworkers from the World Trade Center during the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
