151114-N-KW492-020 GULF OF ADEN (Nov. 14, 2015) Intelligence Specialist 3rd Class Kaitlyn Smiddy, a Ship's Nautical or Otherwise Photographic Interpretation and Examination (SNOOPIE) team leader, from Castle Rock, Colo., uses a polaris to determine the bearing and range of a ship during a SNOOPIE drill on the signal bridge of the amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD 3). Kearsarge is the flagship for the Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and, with the embarked 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), is deployed in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations.
