First Lt. Jeffrey Meek, a Wilmette, Ill., native and platoon leader with the 2nd Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, was presented the advanced combat helmet that saved his life three years ago Nov. 13 at Fort Hood, Texas. The helmet was hit by a 7.62 mm round while deployed to Afghanistan three years ago.
