Technical Sergeant Zachary Rhyner, USAF, is interviewed during Gathering of Eagles in Wood Auditorium at Air Command and Staff College at Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala. TSgt Rhyner was awarded the Air Force Cross for actions on April 6, 2008, while serving as a Joint Terminal Attack Controller. His assault force repelled 200+ enemy fighters within Nuristan Province, Afghanistan, with then-Senior Airman Rhyner calling in over 50 airstrikes and controlling 12 attack aircraft during a six-hour firefight. His actions twice prevented his team from being overrun and led to the survival of 100+ Afghan Commandos and US special operators..
