A U.S. Marine runs with the guidon flanked by members of all three sister U.S. services during the First to Fight 240 Relay at Resolute Support Headquarters, Kabul, Afghanistan, commemorating the 240th birthday of the United States Marine Corps. The Marines at Resolute Support and the adjacent U.S. Embassy took turns carrying the guidon for 240 laps around the 26-acre compound. Many coalition partners assigned to this NATO camp also ran in support. When the 240th lap was completed after about 14 hours the guidon had covered 96 miles through a cold, drizzling rain. The run kicked off the Marines' birthday celebration that culminated in the traditional Marine Corps Ball which was hosted by the Embassy Security Guard Marines.
