Marines of Marine Forces Reserve honored Maj. Daniel Carmick, Nov. 9, 2015, for his role in the Battle of New Orleans as well as his Marine Corps service. Each year MARFORRES holds a wreath laying ceremony at Carmick’s gravesite. Carmick commanded Marines and local militia men in the Battle of New Orleans during the War of 1812 and established the Marine Corps nickname leatherneck.
