Rct. Skyler R. Marr, Platoon 1098, Alpha Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, shoots during marksmanship training Nov. 4, 2015, on Parris Island, S.C. Each recruit fires more than 300 rounds over five days. At the end of the week, they attempt to qualify from distances of 200, 300 and 500 yards. Marr, 19, from Melbourne, Fla., is scheduled to graduate Dec. 11, 2015. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 19,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
