California Army National Guard Pfc. Jesse Hernandez, whose civilian job is a custody assistant for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, saved 42 people from a burning bus on a Los Angeles freeway on Oct. 18. Hernandez is a rifleman with the Cal Guard's D Company (Weapons), 1st Battalion, 160th Infantry Regiment, out of San Pedro, Calif.
