Cpl. Joseph Knolton looks at a Bell AH-1 Super Cobra while returning from recovering a simulated downed aircraft Oct. 28, 2015, during Blue Chromite 16 off the coast of Okinawa, Japan. The mission, which included assets from Marine Air Group 36, also included members of 3rd Law Enforcement Battalion, who recovered personnel with assistance of military working dogs. Blue Chromite is a large-scale amphibious exercise that draws primarily from III Marine Expeditionary Force’s training resources on Okinawa. The location of the training allows participating units to maintain a forward-deployed posture and eliminates the cost of traveling to train. Knolton is from Jackson, Tenn., and a Bell UH-1Y Venom mechanic with MAG 29, HMLA 269, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, II Marine Expeditionary Force, currently attached to 1st MAW, III MEF.
