ARABIAN SEA (Oct. 13, 2015) Command Master Chief Leonard Greene and Seaman Apprentice John McEvilly, the oldest and youngest Sailors aboard Whidbey Island-class dock landing ship USS Rushmore (LSD 47), cut the Navy’s 240th birthday cake. Rushmore is part of the Essex Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and, with the embarked 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), is deployed in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations.
