ARABIAN SEA (Oct. 13, 2015) Commander Thomas Stephens, commanding officer of Whidbey Island-class dock landing ship USS Rushmore (LSD 47), gives a naval history lesson on the ship's mess deck in honor of the Navy's 240th birthday. Rushmore is part of the Essex Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and, with the embarked 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), is deployed in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations.
