Air Force pararescuemen, also known as PJs, are the only DoD elite combat forces specifically organized, trained, equipped and postured to conduct full spectrum personnel recovery (PR), to include both conventional and unconventional combat rescue operations. PJs from the 920th Rescue Wing, 308th Rescue Squadron, Patrick Air Force Base, Fla., extracted pilots from the water using two HH-60 Pave Hawks. The PJs will hoist themselves down, attach the pilot and lift them up while the helicopter is hovering over. (U.S. Air Force photo/Lt. Col. Jeremy Boyd)
