U.S. Soldiers from the 59th Aviation Troop Command, South Carolina Army National Guard (SCARNG), provide airborne support during flood relief operations in Columbia, S.C., Oct. 5, 2015. Over 1,100 South Carolina National Guard members have been mobilized since Gov. Nikky Haley declared a state of emergency, on October 1, 2015. Areas in the midlands were affected with more than 2 feet of rain, which devastated many parts of the city and surrounding communities. The airborne component of the SARNG’s relief effort includes the S.C. Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team (SC-HART), a collaborative effort between the State Rescue Task Force (SC-TF1), under the direction of the S.C. LLR, State Fire Marshal and the SCARNG.
