U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Chad Knudson, a native of Wolf Point, Mont., uses his cell photo to take a picture of a dolphin while Staff Sgt. Ray Nealon, a native of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and currently assigned to the 735th Air Mobility Squadron at Hickam AFB, Hawaii, watches U.S. Navy Boatswain's Mate 2nd Class (DV) Elizabeth Jache pour water on her dolphin to keep him cool prior to transporting him from a C-17 Globemaster from March AFB, Calif., to a 535th Airlift Squadron, Hickam AFB, Hawaii, C-17 Nov. 8, at Hickam AFB, Hawaii. Jache is one of the primary dolphin handlers in the U.S. Navy Marine Mammal Program based in San Diego, Calif. The U.S Air Force active duty and reserve C-17 Globemaster crews have combined to transport four dolphins from the Mammal program to Noumea, New Caledonia, where they will participate in Lagoon MINEX 2009, which is a humanitarian project where U.S. Navy, French, Australian and New Zealand demolition crews will remove mines left over from WW II from the surrounding water of the area.
