Casey Roskelly, commanding officer of the guided-missile frigate USS Simpson (FFG 56), is piped ashore by the ceremonial boatswain’s mate during the ship’s decommissioning ceremony in Naval Station Mayport. Having served for 30 years, Simpson had been the most recent U.S. Navy warship to sink an enemy vessel in action during an encounter with an Iranian gunboat in the Persian Gulf on April 18, 1988.
