Rct. Cullen R. Mackenzie, a 20-year-old native of Boynton Beach, Fla., is currently training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., in hopes of earning the title United States Marine. Mackenzie is training with Platoon 1086, Charlie Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, and is scheduled to graduate Oct. 16, 2015. “I joined to be a warrior, to help out people who can’t defend themselves and to better myself as a human being.” Mackenzie graduated from Park Vista High School in Lake Worth, Fla., in 2013. Approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
