Rct. Genesis A. Dejesus, Platoon 4035, Oscar Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, provides security during a combat training course Sept. 22, 2015, on Parris Island, S.C. The course is part of Basic Warrior Training, which focuses on basic field-related skills all Marines must know. These skills will be broadened during follow-on training at Camp Lejeune, N.C. Dejesus, 18, from Central Islip, N.Y., is scheduled to graduate Oct. 16, 2015. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
