A young Dutch watches paratroopers from the U.S., Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland and the U.K jump Sept. 19, as part of a commemorative event held to remember Operation Market Garden. local The event, which marked the 71st anniversary of Operation Market Garden, the largest Airborne jump in history, hosted attendees who outlined more than a kilometer of the drop zone’s border. Many surrounded the Airborne Monument in Ginkel Heide, which stands for Market Garden’s fallen paratroopers, overlooking the historic drop zone in the town of Ede. The commemoration brought together approximately 1,000 allied paratroopers from the seven NATO allies for several days of combined airborne operations and ceremonies. Market Garden was the largest airborne operation in history, taking place from Sept. 17-25, 1944. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt. Daniel Cole, U.S. Army Europe Public Affairs)
