A recruit of Fox Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, provides security during the Bayonet Assault Course at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Sept. 15. Before members of a fire team can advance, a recruit must provide security to the rest of his team. The course simulated what it would be like while moving from one point to another during combat. Today, all males recruited from west of the Mississippi are trained at MCRD San Diego. The depot is responsible for training more than 16,000 recruits annually. Fox Company is scheduled to graduate Oct. 9.
