At the head of the patient, Navy Capt. John Shapira, an EMF anesthesiologist, monitors Hektor while Petty Officer 3rd Class Joeben Estacio, hospital corpsman, with CJTF-HOA's EMF, dispenses surgical instruments. Hektor's surgery is to test for cancer due to an abnormality. The surgeons neuter Hektor to prevent future surgeries. Brunner is a native of Woodstock, N.Y., and deployed from Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, Calif. Serwon is a native of Kansas City, Kan., and deployed from Pacific Northwest District Veterinary Command, Fort Lewis, Wash. Shapira is deployed from Naval Medical Center, San Diego, Calif.
