Navy Capt. John Shapira, an Expeditionary Medical Facility anesthesiologist, monitors Hektor, a Djiboutian K-9 working dog, while he is under anesthesia by checking his oxygen saturation, carbon dioxide, electrocardiogram, respiratory rate, blood pressure, anesthetic depth, fluid administration, and for any other medications required during the surgical procedure in the EMF, Oct. 23. Hektor will undergo surgery to test for cancer due to an abnormality. Shapira is deployed from Naval Medical Center, San Diego, Calif.
