Greg Stanton, mayor of Phoenix, Margy Bons, Gold Star mother, and U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. Ronald L. Green, 18th sergeant major of the Marine Corps, place a wreath for Sgt. Michael A. Marzano, who was killed in action in Haditha Iraq, May 7, 2005, during a wreath-laying ceremony at Bolin Memorial Park in Phoenix, Sept. 10, 2015. Each portion of the memorial wreath that is presented has significance and is a time honored tradition that can be traced back to similar practices of Ancient Greece. More than 800 Marines are participating in Marine Week Phoenix to give the citizens of the greater Phoenix area the opportunity to meet the individual Marines and celebrate community, country and Corps.
