U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Gen. David H. Berger, commanding general of I Marine Expeditionary Force, gives opening remarks during the Marine Week Phoenix opening ceremony at Civic Space Park in Phoenix Sept. 9, 2015. Several hundred Phoenix residents, Marines, and Phoenix leaders attended the ceremony, which featured performances by Marine Band San Diego and the Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon. The Marine Corps Mounted Color Guard opened the ceremony with a flag presentation, followed by comments from Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton and Berger. “This week we are going to share a little bit about what your Marine Corps is about,” said Berger. “Your Marines are forward deployed and engaged in the Pacific, in South America, in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and starting tonight - in Phoenix, Ariz.”
