The Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon out of Marine Barracks Washington, D.C. performs during the Marine Week Phoenix opening ceremony at Civic Space Park in Phoenix Sept. 9, 2015. Several hundred Phoenix residents, Marines, and Phoenix leaders attended the ceremony, which featured performances by Marine Band San Diego and the Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon. The Marine Corps Mounted Color Guard opened the ceremony with a flag presentation, followed by comments from Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton and Lt. Gen. David H. Berger, commanding general of I Marine Expeditionary Force. “They are going to leave our city, as Marines always do, a better place because of Marine Week,” said Stanton. “We are so blessed an honored that more than 4,000 Arizonans are currently active duty Marines. Let’s get Marine week started in Phoenix, Ariz.!” (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt. Tyler J. Bolken)
