150828-N-VH871-003 U.S. NAVAL BASE GUAM (Aug. 28, 2015) – Capt. Mark A. Prokopius, commanding officer of submarine tender USS Emory S. Land (AS 39) presents Hull Technician 3rd Class Jacob Osborne with a certificate for completing his Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist (ESWS) qualification. Sailors spend significant time working and studying to complete ESWS and upon completion have an extensive level of knowledge about shipboard departments, capabilities, damage control, force protection, supply, U.S. Navy heritage, and engineering. Emory S. Land is a forward deployed expeditionary submarine tender on an extended deployment conducting coordinated tended moorings and afloat maintenance in the U.S. 5th and 7th Fleet areas of responsibility.
