    U.S. Coast Guard District 1

Coast Guard crews from Station Portland, Maine and Air Station Cape Cod, Mass., responded to a call at approximately 7:40 p.m. on Aug. 26 that fishing vessel Gretchen Marie reported smoke in its pilothouse approximately six miles from Jeffrey's Ledge with two people on board. Station Portland launched a 47’ Motor Life Boat which arrived on scene and removed the two unharmed fishermen as the MH-60 Jayhawk from Air Station Cape Cod arrived for support. After the scene was secured, the MH-60 departed the area and Station Portland placed the vessel in tow, bringing it to just outside Portland, Maine, where a Portland Fire Boat attended to the vessel upon anchoring.
