Benjamin Miller and Senior Chief Boatswain’s Mate Herb Kresge, all assigned to U.S. Naval War College (NWC) in Newport, Rhode Island, navigate Narragansett Bay onboard the NWC command cutter. The NWC command cutter was built by the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard in February 1957, is 50 feet in length with a beam of 13.5 feet, and is made of oak with double-planked Alaskan cedar sides and teak decks.
