DETROIT, Mich. (Aug. 25, 2015) Arthur W. Bryant, a member of Wayne State University’s board of visitors, explains the significance of SS Wayne Victory, A WWII era victory ship named after the university, prior to a rededication of the display at the school as part of Detroit Navy Week. SS Wayne Victory was a merchant marine ship which served the Navy in WWII, the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War. Navy Weeks focus a variety of assets, equipment and personnel on a single city for a week-long series of engagements designed to bring America's Navy closer to the people it protects, in cities that don't have a large naval presence.
