Members of the Honduran air force learn about the penetrant line during a subject matter expert exchange event with members from the 355th Equipment Maintenance Squadron nondestructive inspections lab on Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz., Aug. 19, 2015. Penetrant is used to detect discontinuities, like cracks and pits that are open to the surface on parts made of nonporous materials. The penetrant enters into a surface discontinuity in the material and glows when exposed to UV light. The five members from the Honduran air force teamed up with 12th Air Force (Air Forces Southern) and the 355th EMS for a subject matter expert exchange that focused on a variety of nondestructive inspections lab processes and maintenance safety standards.
