150813-N-VH871-197 U.S NAVAL BASE GUAM (Aug. 13, 2015) - A Torpedo Recovery Team consisting of Sailors from submarine tenders USS Emory S. Land (AS 39) and USS Frank Cable (AS 40) lowers a test torpedo to the deck as part of hands-on torpedo recovery training facilitated by Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC). Submarine tenders with the capability to recover torpedoes at sea provide combatant commanders flexibility in choosing locations for submarines to conduct test firings and hone this critical skill. Emory S. Land is a forward deployed expeditionary submarine tender on an extended deployment conducting coordinated tended moorings and afloat maintenance in the U.S. 5th and 7th Fleet areas of responsibility.
