Durham, N.C., native Christy Blankenship, a non-medical attendant (NMA), cooks breakfast for Sgt. Eric Osborne, a patient and Soldier with the Warrior Transition Brigade-National Capital Region who hails from Michigan City, Ind., July 29 at Naval Support Activity Bethesda, Md. As an NMA, Blankenship helps her friend of six years, Osborne, with doing many different tasks to include getting to and from medical appointments, preparing medications, shopping and laundry. NMAs act as live-in care givers for wounded, ill or injured troops who may not yet be capable of or mobile enough to perform normal day to day tasks without some level of assistance.
