Florian Waitl, left, staff ride historian with the Combat Studies Institute at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., leads Soldiers of the 75th Training Command, Lakewood, Colo., through a virtual staff ride training July 18. The state-of-the-art training tool brings real, historical battles into the classroom, encourages these U.S. Army Reserve Soldiers to critically evaluate details such as terrain, fighting positions and mission objectives, and discuss how the situation could have been more successful. The training is designed to represent situations Soldiers may face in combat situations, and stresses the importance of considering all risks, needs and safety measures in a real-world situation.
