New Horizons Honduras 2015 training exercise personnel visited the United States Naval Ship Spearhead, Joint High Speed Vessel 1, Aug. 1, 2015, in Trujillo, Honduras. A tour of the vessel was provided by Lt. Cmdr. Josh Perry, Naval Construction Group 2 chief staff officer, out of Gulfport, Miss. The Spearhead was in Honduras to deliver equipment and personnel that will be training in the country for the next six weeks. New Horizons was launched in the 1980s and is an annual joint humanitarian assistance exercise that U.S. Southern Command conducts with a partner nation in Central America, South America or the Caribbean. The exercise improves joint training readiness of U.S. and partner nation civil engineers, medical professionals and support personnel through humanitarian assistance activities.
