1st Lt. Alfred L. Butler IV, executive officer for Weapons Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment stands at attention while receiving his Bronze Star with Combat Distinguishing Device outside the battalion's command post May 19. The 27-year-old from Jacksonville, N.C., earned the nation's fourth highest award for his actions and leadership while serving as commander for 81mm Mortar Platoon on December 23, 2004 during combat operations in Fallujah.
