A United States Air Force C-130 aircraft begins to lift off from the Short Take Off Landing strip at Hohenfels Training Area, July 29. The aircraft was used to test the capabilities of the recently resurfaced and extended STOL, which is now the only dirt airstrip in Germany capable of supporting an aircraft as large as the C-130. Having this capability at Hohenfels provides an important advantage in interoperability training, as multinational partners are now able to expand air operations exercises to include larger aircraft and increased troop loads.
