A member from the 18th Logistics Readiness Squadron from Kadena Air Base, Japan, conducted a forward area refueling exercise along with U.S. Navy 85th Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron during exercise Talisman Sabre in the Northern Territory of Australia, July 14, 2015. FARP operations provide the ability to refuel aircraft in non-standard and hostile environments using tanker aircraft to refuel rotary and fixed-wing aircraft while engines are running. FARP increases the reach and mission capabilities for special operation forces. The purpose of Talisman Sabre is to improve Australian-U.S. readiness for a wide variety of contingencies, strengthen interoperability, maximize combined training opportunities and conduct maritime prepositioning and logistics operations in maritime and littoral training areas of Australia.
