Sgt. Zelene Diaz, a native of Elmont, N.Y., is deployed to Camp Adder, Tallil, Iraq, with her home unit, Detachment 1, Company B, 628th Aviation Support Battalion, based out of Trenton, N.J. She supports the 28th Combat Aviation Brigade as an avionics system repairer. Diaz works to ensure the 28th CAB's aircraft are properly maintained and mission ready. Diaz works back home at Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn at the Military Enlistment Processing Station, where she assists Soldiers who are going through their enlistment process. Diaz's easy smile and kind, outgoing nature is surely a comfort to many nervous Soldiers making their way through MEPS for the first time. Diaz is also in college and would ultimately like to become a teacher, educating young minds in biology or chemistry. In her spare time, Diaz spends time with her son, plays soccer and lacrosse, reads, watches movies and dances. After she returns home, Diaz will continue her college classes and she would like to work full time in the Army National Guard until she is through school. She also plans on spending lots of quality time with her son.
