U.S. Air Force Maj. Norman Zellers, 60th Medical Operations Squadron, 60th Medical Group physician assistant, out of Travis Air Force Base, Calif., and Allentown, Pa., observes a Trujillo Risk Squad volunteer as they check for breathing in a simulated victim during self-aid buddy care training conducted by New Horizons Honduras 2015 training exercise personnel at the mayor’s office in Trujillo, Honduras, July 11, 2015. The class was part of the overall New Horizons exercise taking place throughout the region which features multiple projects that relate to the construction of a schoolhouse and the drilling of a well. New Horizons was launched in the 1980s and is an annual joint humanitarian assistance exercise that U.S. Southern Command conducts with a partner nation in Central America, South America or the Caribbean. The exercise improves joint training readiness of U.S. and partner nation civil engineers, medical professionals and support personnel through humanitarian assistance activities.
